The Coming Days for Sandringham Primary School

Dear school community,

Since we first received notification of the fire at our school shortly before 5am this morning, myself, Pam Bernau, Margaret Hird, the School Council, teachers and support staff have been working with the MFB and Department of Education to obtain information about the situation we face.

The most vital consideration when communicating with you today is to make sure we give you 100% accurate and transparent information about what has happened and – most importantly – the plan for the days ahead.

Significant damage has occurred to the main building and access to the site has been restricted.

We are working with emergency services and the Department to make the building safe and to access the damage.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is being investigated by authorities.

Temporary arrangements:

Monday will be a school closure for Sandringham PS students.

Sandringham East Primary School and Sandringham Secondary College have generously offered space for our students to temporarily relocate to, and we have accepted this offer.

From Tuesday, Preps – Year 2 classes will be located at Sandringham East Primary School and Years 3-6 classes will be at Sandringham Secondary College. The schools are on neighbouring properties.

Monday will be a student-free day so that we can put these arrangements in place. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes.

Address:

Sandringham East Primary School (Preps – Year 2 to be located here)

9 Holloway Road, Sandringham

Sandringham Secondary College (Years 3-6 to be located here)

11 Holloway Road, Sandringham

We anticipate classes will run as usual from Tuesday, in their current classes from the new locations.

Support services, including counselling, will be made available for all students next week who wish to access this support.

Community meeting:

We will be holding a community meeting for families at 4pm on Sunday at the Sandringham East PS stadium and we encourage you to attend.

I want to assure you we will keep you up-to-date with any news and progress as information comes to hand.

I appreciate this is a stressful time for everyone and we will endeavour to minimise disruption as much as possible.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Yours sincerely

Louise Neave

Principal.
